Multisector EDI in Mexico: Applications and opportunities

Multisector EDI in Mexico: Applications and opportunities

How EDI adapts to the needs of each industry

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is widely used across Mexico as a cross-industry technology for streamlining business-to-business communications. Retail, logistics, automotive, and other industries use it to exchange information automatically and meet increasingly common requirements in their trading relationships.

Although requirements vary by industry, many processes are based on common messages, such as purchase orders and goods receipt notifications. The key is adapting these flows to each organization’s documents, trading partners, and systems. An EDI platform can integrate these communications while maintaining information traceability as the trading partner network grows.

This adaptability becomes particularly important when doing business with a customer or entering a new market requires meeting specific data exchange requirements. Relying on manual processes or isolated connections can lead to errors, slow down trading partner onboarding, and make international expansion more difficult. An effective implementation therefore requires a prior assessment of the business, industry, and country-specific requirements.

The interview explains why EDI is no longer limited to a specific industry and what companies should consider when looking to improve their electronic communications.
